THE VERSATILITY OF RAYON

Rayon is the first fabric manufacture by homo sapiens. In the past, humans were dependent on the raw materials of animals and plants such as silkworms, beaver, buffalo, deer, sheep, and palm trees, for their clothing. But the previous century has changed the chemistry and technology of the world. Scientists have now manufactured and enhanced many of the fabrics. Natural products (cellulosic fibers) and chemical compounds (non-cellulosic cords) are the two main categories of human-made filaments. Rayon comes in the natural-based group, which is produced from the cellulose of wood, pulp, or cotton. Because of its natural base material, it is cost-efficient, versatile, and comfortable fabric.

HISTORY

The French silk industry faced some serious trouble because of an ailment affecting the silkworm. Louis Pasteur and Count Hilaire de Chardonnet researched a lot to save the silk industry and make a solution. Chardonnet was then successful in producing artificial silk from cellulose. First, it was called as artificial or imitation silk, and then in 1925, it was named Rayon. The FTC further divided rayon into two types Rayon, consisting of pure cellulose and Acetate, consisting of a cellulose compound. In the 1950s rayon became popular for making home furnishing and industrial products. In 1955, a High-wet modulus rayon was developed for sheets, attires, and towels. Today, rayon is considered as the most versatile fabric as it could be blended with both natural or human-made fibers, and enhanced with so many treatments.

THE USES OF RAYON

Rayon is mainly used in the textile industry. Rayon is used in the making of attires, as a filler for furniture cushions, sleeping pillows, and as the stuffing of toys. Because of its absorbent and soft material, it is used to make adult diapers and other sanitized products. Rayon fabric manufacturer also uses it as a primary component of vehicle tires because of its strength.

 BENEFITS OF RAYON

  1. Because it is made from natural cellulose, it is an inexpensive fabric.
  2. The silk-like feel of this fabric is exclusive and gives an elite look.
  3. The drape looks attractive.
  4. It could easily be combined with other fibers, specially woven, and provides a fantastic look.
  5. Rayon dyes easily with beautiful vivid colors.
