Flannel is considered as a soft fabric, which is either brushed or unbrushed in texture. Originally, The flannel fabric was made from worsted yarn and carded wool. The new flannel is made of soft cotton, synthetic fibers, or wool. The unique thicker weave makes flannel durable and ideal for winters. For a fuzzier texture, flannel fabric is brushed by running a fine metal comb in it before or after weaving. The unique quality of the flannel is the way its yarn is woven. Because of the loose weaving of the yarn, it gets more air pockets in its fibers.

PRODUCTION OF THE FLANNEL FABRIC:
It takes a few steps to produce a flannel fabric:
  1. BASE MATERIAL: The first step is to obtain the base material. The selected material could be wool, cotton, or synthetic textile. Silk and other finer fabrics are not appropriate for the production of flannel fabric.
  2. SPINNING OF YARN: There could be some considerations for the flannel yarn, but otherwise, the fabric yarn is spun and manufactured in the same way as the textile yarn.
  3. FABRIC WEAVING: To make a flannel, twill, or plain weave is used. The woven fiber could be napped on each side to form a soft texture that conceals the weave. Napping is the procedure that distresses the spun thread and gives out the look of unspun fiber. Since the fiber is woven into a matrix, it stays together. 
  4. FINAL TREATMENTS: Synthetic flannel is often given a flame-retardant layer. Wool is not affected by any treatments as it is flame-resistant. Any sort of treatment could be applied in the cotton flannel. The most organic flannel material present in the market is Merino wool flannel.

APPLICATIONS OF THE FLANNEL FABRIC:
